Katja Pire Belgium
Katja Pire is a dancer and choreographer.
Katja Pire is a dancer and choreographer who trained in various dance styles before focusing on contemporary dance and physical theatre, often creating work for and with young audiences. She has danced with companies such as keski.e.space, hetpaleis, Ensemble Leporello, 4hoog, and Nat Gras. As a choreographer and movement coach, she has collaborated with Toneelgroep NUNC, figurentheater Tieret, Cacao Bleu, Bonnie_attemps, and Hofplein Jeugdtheater Rotterdam. For fABULEUS, she worked as repetiteur/assistant on productions including Everland (Natascha Pire), Liefdesverklaring (Nicole Beutler and Magne van den Berg), Girls, and RATS.
Over the past 12 years, Katja has deepened her practice in contact improvisation and instant composition. Her work increasingly focuses on projects where interaction with the environment and with others — in the present moment — is central. In 2014, she developed the partly improvised site‑specific project If you passing meet me for Brussel Danst, and through socially engaged artistic projects with organizations such as Madam Fortuna, she explores art experiences as a means of connection. She has also led projects with young dancers in Portugal, Venezuela, and South Africa.
