Anabel Schellekens Belgium
Anabel Schellekens is a dancer and choreographer.
Anabel Schellekens (b. 1970) studied civil engineering before completing a dance education at P.A.R.T.S.. She has worked, among others, with Robert Wilson and HushHushHush. In the artistic projects she develops within inti vzw, her driving force is to move people through images and emotions.
During her dance training, she developed a fascination with the body and the energetic power that can be accessed through movement and hands-on practices. This led her to pursue training in Shiatsu massage. She continued to deepen her practice in body-oriented approaches such as Pilates, Mindfulness, Brain Gym, Somato-Psychopedagogy, Live the Connection, and others.
Movement and physical contact come together in a personal language rooted in connection through movement — for example in the project Bewogen, where she sets people in motion both literally and figuratively. With Stil Bewogen, inti enables caregivers to discover new ways of entering into dialogue with people living with dementia.
Anabel teaches body awareness at the Royal Conservatoire of Antwerp and has previously worked as a guest choreographer and guest lecturer at institutions including KU Leuven, Odisee, Studio Herman Teirlinck, Fontys Dance Academy, and Artforum. In 2020, she obtained a postgraduate degree in Somato-Psychopedagogy at PXL University of Applied Sciences and Arts (Hasselt).
