Dr. Saloua Berdai Chaouni is a gerontologist and biomedical scientist with extensive academic and practice-oriented expertise in equitable (dementia) care for older migrants, with a strong focus on epistemic justice through methodological innovation in participatory research.

Dr. Saloua Berdai Chaouni is a transdisciplinary researcher at the Society and Ageing Research Lab at Vrije Universiteit Brussels and a senior researcher and lecturer at Karel de Grote University College. Recognized as a pioneer in addressing issues at the intersections of aging, migration, and care, she has developed innovative approaches, contributed to policy guidelines, and led initiatives promoting equitable care for marginalized and racialized (older) populations. This work was recognized with the Charles Ullens Award (2012) and the Diwan Award (2018). Her current research focuses on older migrants, equitable aging and dementia care, racism’s health impact in midlife, and the decoloniality of research and care.
