Meander (of a river) Open-air exhibition by Curating the Young
Meander through the Vaartkom and discover works by five young, emerging artists who translate feelings and processes of wandering, searching, and discovering into unique pieces. You’ll find them around the Vaartkom, in Sluispark, and on the Engels Plein - places that invite both Leuven locals and passers-by to drift and dream.
The verb to meander
refers to a river’s or road’s winding course, but also to aimless wandering. With Meander, Curating the Young and five young artists present an ode to drifting. Their works, scattered across the Vaartkom, stand in contrast to a society where efficiency and control dominate. Artists, visitors, and passers-by are invited to explore without direction and be inspired by art and environment.
Curating the Young is a collective that platforms emerging artists and explores what it means to be a curator. Together with five young artists, we transform Leuven into places where searching, doubting, trying, and getting lost take centre stage. As in science, these processes often lead to unexpected discoveries and outcomes.
Meander invites you on a journey through three sites along the Vaartkom.
In the geometric Sluispark, the waters of the river Dijle still find their winding way; along the renewed canal, stepping stones invite you to hop across and discover art; and on Engels Plein - usually a place of passage - you can now pause and marvel. Where you start doesn’t matter: it’s all about what you encounter along the way.
