Izzeldin Abuelaish is a Palestinian-Canadian physician, author, and peace activist. After the tragic loss of three of his daughters and a niece in 2009, he dedicated his life to peace and reconciliation. He is the author of I Shall Not Hate and a five-time Nobel Peace Prize nominee, using health as a bridge to peace.

Professor Dr Doctor Izzeldin Abuelaish is a Palestinian Canadian, author, human rights and peace activist, obstetrician and gynecologist, born in the Gaza Strip, in the Jabaliya refugee camp. Specialist in infertility and global public health.

He is widely recognized for his commitment to peace despite the loss of three of his daughters and his niece, who were killed when his home was shelled by the Israeli army in 2009. He is the Author of the memoir I Shall Not Hate which has been translated into 25 languages.

From this tragedy emerged his lifelong struggle for justice, peace and reconciliation. He chose to respond to hatred and the violence of war with unwavering commitment and action. He is the founder and the leader of the Global Institute for The study of Socio-endemic Diseases, Hatred, Health and Peace at KU Leuven

Nominated five times for the Nobel Peace Prize, he is often referred to as the “Martin Luther King of the Middle East,” having dedicated his life to using health as a bridge to peace.
